Coffee15 Tips For Presenting A Cup Of Coffee When you are making and serving a cup of coffee in a coffee shop there are a number of things to keep in mind that will enhance the impression you give to your customers: 1.Make sure you ask the customer for all the options they may want: the type of coffee, size of cup, optional flavors, decaf or not, topping choices, etc. They expect you to get this exactly right. Write it down if you are busy and there will be a short delay. 2.Tell your customer if there will be a short delay because you are busy. 3.Customers will be watching closely how you prepare their coffee, so deliberately make sure you go about the task efficiently and with care. 4.Work quickly: customers do not like to be kept waiting, but respect you need time to make a good cup of coffee. 5.Make sure your hands and the equipment you use is and looks clean. 6.Warm the cup in advance to make sure the coffee is as hot as possible when served. 7.Never handle the tops of the cup with your hands at any stage. 8.Be very careful when holding a cup near a computer, cash register or other sensitive equipment in case of spillages. Preferably keep cups of coffee well clear of keyboards. 9.Always place the cup down on the counter or table. To avoid spills, do not slide it. Never hand it directly to the customer, as that greatly increases the risk it will be dropped. 10.Provide sugar (including coffee crystals), milk and cream options, together with spoons or stirrers, and serviettes or napkins in case of spillages. Ideally this should be at the table, but may also be at a station near the counter. Indicate to the customer where they can get these optional extras when you serve them with their coffee. 11.Offer a choice of cinnamon or chocolate topping when serving a cappuccino, and develop a distinctive pattern that you use consistently to sprinkle over the cup. Avoid coating the saucer at the same time. 12.A little extra something served on the spoon on the saucer with the coffee makes it a special experience. The Italians favour biscotti and the Dutch a cinnamon biscuit. Some offer a chocolate or truffle. 13.A spiral of lemon peel is often served on the small spoon on the saucer of an espresso. 14.Offer a glass of water with the cup of coffee. 15.Make sure you thank the customer, and it is a good idea to find a way to invite them back again to help build some rapport with them. |
